We are approaching the third anniversary of SEPTEMBER 11th. There are all sorts of programs on the TV about it to remind us of what heppened. One of them that I watched was a documentary that asked people where they were when the found out what was going on. I was at work, discussing fire drills with my superior, when a co worker came and told us what hed happened. I immediately thought it was an accident, I had heard about the Empire State building being hit by a plane during WWII. We watched on TV as the second plane came in, an we certainly knew it wasn't an accident. I worked in a hospital, 90 something miles from New York City, we anticipated new patients, most likely from other hospitals as they moved less critical people to free up space. None came. We tightened security and called people in. Nothing happened. People showed up to donate blood. I remember finally leaving that night and just thinking that maybe 10,000 people were dead, there wasnt very accurate information at the time. I got a flag for the car the next day, I already had a flag at home, I did what the President said to do, I got on with it. When he asked us to light candles, I did that. The first anniversary of September 11th was the same clear, cool type of day, but it was windy, very windy. I wonder if that wind was a manifestation of all of the people who died that day, making themselves heard. I didn't know anybody who was killed there, none of the firefighters or police, but I think a part of everyone who lived through it died. You cant look at pictures of those buildings without thinking about it. I always looked at those buildings, they were alwys there since I was a little kid. When I first went to New York after the attack, there was just a huge hole in the skyline. I don't know what this new building will look like, but it wont be the same for me. This country wont be the same and we will feeling the reprecussions from this for years to come. I don't know if George Bush is the best President, but I can't think of anyone who could have done the job better at that time. That has to be an impossible feat, you cant win in that situation, but he tried. If John Kerry was President then, what would he have done differently? Probably nothing. Put out your flag on the 11th, show the people who died that you havent forgotten them.
