"Silly Mario"- DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT

My boss is taking a vacation. Good for him, he should take two months off, I would. Yesterday we had a meeting to discuss what we would try to accomplish in his absence. Reasonable. I have plans for the time he will be away, my plan consists of cleaning up the mess that he has made over the last few weeks and trying to bring in new clients. I assured him that we would be productive. Then he really chapped my ass. He told me to "Be nice." I have expectations for the employees, the employees need to meet them. I'll help them if they need help. I'm pretty reasonable. Have I been known to throw a phone into the hallway? Yes, but I never threw it at a person. Do I bang on the desk? Yes. Do I have a billyclub hanging on the wall? Yes, as a decoration, not a deterrant. I am reasonable with the employees, not their best friend, not their enemy, the one who wants them to put in a good day of work and go home to their family. What I wont do is allow an employee to dictate to me what they would like to do, you do what I tell you to do. That is it,done. BE NICE- Nice is not a word in business, nice gets you stepped on by the aggressive, nice gets you taken advantage of. Be pleasant to the clients, the staff, whoever, but don't expect that you will receive an award or a new contract if you are nice. "It's all about the Benjamin's." Would your employees help you if you needed them, but couldn't pay them? Hell no. Treat them respectfully, but nice in the workplace is for sissies. Nice puts you in the back of the bus baby, I want to drive the f'ing thing till it breaksdown and then I'll get a new one.
