I let my son down today. I feel really bad about it. You see, there was a Thanksgiving party at his school. I had to work, but wanted to go and said I'd try. Things didn't work out so well at work this morning and I couldn't get away, but I figured that since I didn't tell him I was coming, it would be ok. I have since found out that his Mom told him I would be there. Now I feel like an utter idiot because I couldn't get there to see him. I'm really sorry pal!!

That's not on you,
Unfortunately considering the situation there are just going to be times when you, as the right hand will not know what she the left hand is doing, and vice versa. I think it is unfortunate but unavoidible.
All you can do is explain it and take what ever comes out of it.
