I'm so disgusted with my basketball team right now. New York fans appreciate and want to see good basketball. We see none of that from this sorry miscast team. I had a discussion this morning about whether or not it would be hard to be the GM. I don't think so. To put my money where my mouth is, I'll document this right here. This is what I'd do.
Isiah Thomas would be terminated. He wrecks everything he touches. Larry Brown would still be my coach. He gives everything a hint of respectability. If he didn't turn the thing around by the AllStar Break next year, I'd look for a new coach. I'd retain Herb Williams as assistant coach, fire the rest including the athletic trainer, way too many injuries this year. Bring in Ewing, it is a disgrace that he works for another organization, David Wingate and Derek Harper as assistants.
My rationale for this: Ewing works with your big men, Wingate was a defensive stopper, Harper was a hard nosed point guard.
The Team:
Keep the young guys, Frye, Lee, Robinson. Keep Eddy Curry, keep Marbury
Bring Crawford off the bench. Keep Jackie Butler.
Get rid of the rest. Jerome James, Antonio Davis, Woods, Mo Taylor, Malik Rose.
Bring in defined role players or college players and give them a role. " My stopper, my shot blocker, my nuts."
"Hey My Nuts-- Go out there and knock Kobe down when he drives the lane!"
Not so hard a job. The person making their travel arrangements has a harder job.
"Yes, Hi, Sheraton Hotel? Great, I need 17 rooms. One has to have a bed that will accomodate a 7 foot tall man and his pet Gila Monster, one needs to have a view of the street, one has to have a pink bathroom and one needs to have 6 pieces of white toast delivered at 3:15 AM. The coach? Well he needs a hospital bed with a hookup for a catheter .... Thank you. Can we put that on our Cablevision debit card? Oh Fabulous!
Then make them play or get rid of them.
