I picked up my daughter at daycare yesterday.
We got into the car and started driving. From the back seat came, "Daddy-- Are you happy?"
"Yes," I replied. "Are you happy?"
"Yes," she said and set about singing "The Bear Went Over the Mountain" leaving me to wonder why she asked me such a question. Was it because I didn't look happy or because I did look happy? Or did she just want to know?

My daughter (10) askes me that same thing quite often. I always say yes. But I too wonder why she asks and if she means happy in general or if "the childs' wisdom" is thinking in much more profound ways, such as "happy with the way my life is going". I honestly believe that we are born much wiser and smarter than we are as we age and we actually lose our insight. Life through the eyes of a child; if adults could see things that way what a wonderful world.
I think they know. We "hide" things from them and they see right through you. Your co-worker wont know, your neighbor wont know, but a child does.
Absolutely. Hey sorry to see your page go: LONG LIVE ARCHIE
So are you happy or are you hiding something from her?
I have nothing to hide from her.
