My Brain Hurts

I was thinking yesterday on my Sunday morning drive to Kingston. Is anyone ever truly happy? This kind of brings us back to last weeks “Are you Happy?”

I think that happiness is a commodity and I believe that almost every human is inherently greedy. There are exceptions, but those are people that are so high on the spiritual plain that I doubt that I will ever meet any of them. We keep looking and looking, when really it is already there. Happiness is a small part, but what you are really looking for is contentment. When you are content, then you are also happy, at least during the time that you are content. At least that is how I see it.

Then take into account that your brain is in essence a mini pharmacy and there is some ridiculous number of chemical reactions going on in your head each second. If you are content or on a smaller level happy, then don’t you think that those reactions will feel much better and have a much better effect on your body. How about resting your brain? How can you do that in the age that we live in? There is the news, internet, radio, pagers, cell phone, where do you unwind? Most of us probably don’t or we medicate ourselves to make us feel like we did. Alcohol, sleeping pills, illicit drugs, prescription drugs, people use these to escape. Why can’t you sleep? Because work, stress, your spouse, sickness, overweight, bulimia, over stimulation…

When is the last time you sat quietly? I don’t know when I have. I’m not talking about sleeping, that is different. Just sitting, watching, listening, not in a rush. We all have to work, pay bills, have responsibilities, have others in our care, but when can you unwind? When you die? When you are worn out and do the ultimate wind down? Some of us will be that way. I think. I’m hoping it isn’t me.

I’m not going to meditate in a corner or take up tai chi, but I’m beginning to question if our connectivity will lower our lifespan.

Oh my god, I think you're right! So now what should I do is throw away my cellphone (they say it causes cancer anyway). Maybe take one hour a day to relax, yeah, relax. Between washing the dishes and starting another load of laundry after I come home from work at 7:00pm. No wait, I've got to cook dinner. I should go out to eat more often. That costs money. Maybe I should ask my boss for a raise. I need a new car anyway. But then I won't have any money to go on vacation so I can relax and....***BOOM!***

Relax while watching a thunderstorm and then *** BLAM*** you get slammed in the head with 10,000 volts of lightming conducted by the button on your cap.

Sounds like Stress Boy needs a vacation or he'll end up in a straight jacket!
